Meet Sara – and some of the questions she’s most passionate about answering for fellow women and mamas. She’s a mama of two and recently awakened in her own journey to the importance of wellness, and holistic living.
“My goal is to share knowledge, experience and the passion I have for natural health, beauty & holistic well being, particularly with what I learned through two of my favourite wellness brands: Weleda and doTerra“.
How Sara met Lella…
“I was lucky enough to meet Mary (the founder of Lella) when we did our HypnoBirthing Educator training together in London in 2019. I was so excited when she launched Lella.
My dream is to help all women have the knowledge they need to make informed and empowered decisions about their health and wellbeing. I’m honoured to be part of the Lella community.Sara Sullivan
Sara became pregnant with her first child at the age of 39 and would deliver her son at the age of 40, classing her a “geriatric mum” by most standards.
“I was struggling to get pregnant and started to become much more aware of what I was putting into my body and also what I was putting onto it (skin care products, make-up, moisturisers, hair products).
She consulted with an ayurvedic beautician who mentioned the importance of considering SLS and SLES (sodium laureth sulfates). Feeling totally uninformed, Sara began to do her research. She learned that her skin absorbed up to 60% of what she put on her body and delved into researching further about the hundreds of chemicals the average woman will use on her skin and hair every day.
Living in Australia, Sara found an all-natural body care line she loved. It was fully Australian-made and free from any chemicals she didn’t want to bring in contact with her skin. When she moved back to England, however, she found it difficult to source any type of equivalent products.
When I came across Weleda, initially through buying their baby products, I did a lot of research and was so relieved to have finally found a brand I feel safe and happy to use on my whole family.
Sara dug deeper and discovered that Weleda grew and crafted 100% natural and organic herbal medicines and body care products – and has been doing this for nearly a century. She was particularly impressed that all Weleda products were certified by NATRUE, an internationally recognised seal of quality and integrity for organic and natural cosmetics.
“This means that they meet the highest possible standards: Natural and organic ingredients; Sustainable production processes; Environmentally-friendly practices; No synthetic fragrances or dyes; No silicone oils; No ingredients from petrochemicals; No animal testing; No irradiation of end products or herbal ingredients – basically nothing artificial or synthetic and all plant-based and totally natural.”
Sara uses, loves, and passionately promotes skin and body care products for the entire family, hair care, baby care, as well as homeopathic remedies. She’s created a free 15-minute chat on Lella for anyone wanting to ask questions about her experience with the Weleda brand and her pursuit of organic beauty products.
When Sara met doTERRA…
“After being introduced to doTERRA by my friend and yoga teacher, and then using the essential oils myself, I saw the amazingly positive impact they had on me and my family.”
Sara recently hopped on a call with her friend and Lella founder, Mary, to share her insight.
“doTerra produces the highest quality, purest essential oils. Along with a multi-stage testing process, doTERRA knows where their oils come from – down to the very last detail: where the plants are grown, when they’re harvested, where they’re distilled, by whom and so on.”
I love them because they support me physically, emotionally and in so many beautiful ways. In fact, they help me more than I could ever have imagined. They are my self-care tool kit!
My little boys, especially my eldest (5 years old) sees me use these oils all the time. They have become part of the boys’ routine as well. Every morning during this recent COVID lockdown, my little one and I have started the day by choosing our favourite oil, putting a couple of drops in the palms of our hands, and inhaling them slowly. We say some affirmations together. It is such a beautiful, peaceful, grounding way to start the day.
Essential Oil Newbie? Sara offers Starter Sessions and can chat with you 1:1 to introduce what essential oils are, how to find a pure essential oil (she believes this is most important!) and to inspire all the different ways in which pure essential oils can be used (topically, internally, and of course through scent!)
Oils can be custom-blended based on personality and individual ailments. Some of her clients’ favourites include Lavender, Wild Orange and Peppermint mixed together for stress management, or Vetiver mixed with their ready-made Serenity for roller ball application to sleep more soundly.
Sara’s Birth Work Journey
From the moment she found out she was pregnant, Sara became fascinated by the miracle that is baby development, both in the womb, and then once a baby is born into the world.
“I class myself as extremely lucky that I was able to be a part of the midwifery group program in our local hospital at the time (in Sydney, Australia) for both my pregnancies. This meant that I had the same midwife from 12 weeks of pregnancy, through to the births of my babies, and then for follow-up for 2 weeks afterwards at home. While my midwife clearly wasn’t a ‘doula’ per se, it did give me insight into how very valuable it is for an expectant mama to have consistency in her caregiver, so she can form a solid relationship built on trust and real understanding. The presence of a birth Doula, who is there for you 100%, and supports whatever choices you make, can make so much difference to a mama’s emotional strength and readiness for birth.”
Sara acknowledges, more than anything, how very overwhelming, confusing, and exhausting it is to be a new mama.
“To go from feeling confident in yourself, in your life, in your world, to feeling unsure, anxious, alone, is sometimes hard to accept. I can remember being totally besotted with my babies, yet, at times, totally desperate as I didn’t seem able to help them when they cried and cried with the pain of their colicky tummies.
Sara was so thankful both her children took to breastfeeding quickly and that her body could produce the milk they needed. At the same time, though, she wondered if she could handle the pain of her breasts, from her stitches and the afterpains in her uterus.
“To have a postnatal doula who can visit you in your home for 6 or 8 weeks, or more if needed, is a blessing. Your doula understands that, when you have given birth, your previously ordered and organised brain becomes disorganised and chaotic. All new mamas need to fit in a whole heap of new skills which can be overwhelming and, yes, messy, very messy! During this time, there is a great need for security, stability, control; for someone who can be with you, can calm you, can talk with you, can share information with you.”
Sara is also a qualified HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator.
